Very hard exotic wood with no visible grain. Due to its properties and inconspicuous appearance, it is suitable for heavy duty knives, axes, machetes and military knives

The wood is from Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia, from areas near the coast and at higher elevations up to 400 m above sea level.The heartwood is brownish grey to dark reddish brown with varying shades. Colour differences between blocks are natural and usual. This wood contains a high resin content, which is manifested by the appearance of golden yellow veining. The wood is very hard and long lasting due to its high density and the substances it contains. Without treatment, the wood remains unharmed and a grey-silver patina develops on the surface.
