Bubinga is a tropical hardwood with a light pink to dark reddish-purple colour, native to Central and West Africa, from the Guibourtia tessmannii tree. It is native to central and west Africa. The tree grows to a height of 40 m (rarely up to 50 m) and a trunk diameter of up to 2 m. The wood is very hard with an average weight of 880 kg/m3. Initially, the pinkish-red wood darkens with age to a brownish-red colour with purple tones. Pieces with strongly wavy years have the most sought-after pattern.
