It produces a durable cutting edge. It is suitable as the darker component in Damascus steel, in combination with the 1.2767 steel that we stock. It is prone to corrosion.

Steel 1.2842/19 312 is a high-carbon tool steel intended for use in the manufacture of blades. It achieves a high hardness of 60–64 HRC, producing a durable cutting edge, but its disadvantage is low corrosion resistance. Suitable for damascene work in combination with steel 1.2767, which we also stock. The hardening diagram is shown in the image attachment.

Processing temperatures:
Forging – 850°C–1050°C
Hardening – 740–820°C – oil
Tempering – 150–250°C

The steel is supplied cut to size, unlevelled; surface corrosion and scale may be present.
