Chrome - vanadium steel with medium hardenability for oil and water quenching

This steel has relatively good toughness at high hardness, good wear resistance and is cutting. It is more difficult to form when hot, but is well machined when annealed.

Use in cutlery practice is for cheaper blades when it is easily hardened in domestic conditions.

It can be used successfully on knife structural components such as fuses and pins. Here, however, we must take into account that this is a easily corroded steel.

Forming temperature: 1050-850 °C
Soft annealing: 710-740 °C
Hardness in annealed condition: 220HB
Hardening: 760-840 °C
Optimum tempering temperature: 180-250 °C
Achievable hardness: 44-64 HRC
