Amaranthus is the hardwood of the Peltogyne venosa tree, which grows in Central and South America. Volume weight 850kg/m3. It is characterized by its dark purple color, for which it is hardly confusable with other woods. It is used for turning, but also as a structural timber for heavy loads. The purple colour only appears after oxidation of the machined surface!
